Abhinav Goel - Product Manager

With over 13 years of experience working as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, and Product Manager, Abhinav Goel has demonstrated expertise in leading cross-functional teams to deliver innovative products that offer outstanding customer experiences and drive revenue growth. With experience in B2B and B2C product development across various industries, including e-commerce, enterprise apps, social networking platforms, GRC platforms, BFSI, March, etc., Abhinav has a proven track record of successfully delivering products that meet and exceed customer needs.

In addition to Abhinav’s passion for product management, he also loves travel and music. Abhinav finds inspiration in exploring new cultures and listening to different genres of music. Abhinav is also a thought leader in the product management space and blogs about a PM’s take on people, processes, and the intersection of product development.

Skillset

Having professional runs with a start-up with three employees initially through Fortune 500 organizations with a 60k+ headcount, he has demonstrated extreme adaptability and learning skills, accompanied by his optimistic and team-first attitude.

Abhinav has the right mix of abilities, ranging from pre-sales to post-sales aisle of operations. The core competencies embrace customer research, requirements engineering, usability analysis via CX surveys and wireframes/prototyping, planning through product strategy/vision, backlog management, team management, product management, UAT, and delivery. He has also contributed to building marketing and knowledgebase assets for his products. In addition, he has prowess on processes spanning traditional SDLC using waterfall through to multiple agile framework implementations using scrum, scaled agile (SAFe), kanban, TDD, and scrum-ban more recently.

Mindset

Since Abhinav has been part of multiple sets of product and project development teams, he has been fortunate enough to come across some distinguished colleagues and managers who have mentored him along the way to whom he owes his professional growth and successes. I will be referring to a lot of them in my blog posts.

Abhinav has a knack for working in a challenging set-up to unlearn some things to develop new capabilities swiftly. Abhinav is an open-minded individual who decides after making sure that he has heard the room first, making sure everybody is on board building strong team relationships with effective collaboration. His buoyant and creative perspective towards product development with a solution-focused approach is very promising for the stakeholders. It instils the courage into the sponsors and customers to trust his team to deliver on requirements and make sure that it has a marketable value attached to it.

Outlook

Thanks to excellent coaching advice from one of Abhinav’s mentors Joseph Jude, he made it a practice to attend many conferences, training and webinars to keep the learning cogs well oiled. But, unfortunately, the product development community has formed a new pattern; we seem to be getting obsessed by the day when it comes to implementing or coaching a process for our product teams. And every which way you go, it says ME! ME! ME!

Yes, some exceptional versions of processes may work for his teams but not for yours. After being involved in various traditional and agile processes, Abhinav has now reached a point where he has started dissecting each process to cherry-pick the preachings that may work and test them with his troupes. With Abhinav’s blog, he will be trying to split the perspective among three aspects: People, Processes & Products to build a holistic view for teams.
